CINEMATOGRAPHY - FILMING - PRODUCTION

A performative manifesto about sexual and affective freedom of a body stigmatized by its society. The collapse and conflict between what truly belongs to this body and the violent projection of the other onto its existence. Freedom rejects silence. True transformation represents the awakening of this ancestry, which through pain subverts the conditions imposed by society in an act of rebirth — perhaps that is it.

RESEARCH

Delicate, curious, and persistent, Esmeralda Penha Gazal is a dancer, educator, and dance director. Before graduating from the Municipal Ballet School of São Paulo, she was accepted at age 15 into the first class of dancers of the Ballet Company of the Theatro Municipal of São Paulo in 1968. After ten years as a dancer, she began teaching dance at schools such as Joyce Ballet and Ismael Guiser. In 1990, she returned to the Municipal Ballet School as assistant director, and in 1993, became its director, a position she held until 2010. One of the hallmarks of her leadership was the reactivation of the school’s Youth Ballet Company. Currently, Esmeralda works as a teacher, pedagogical coordinator, and artistic director of Anacã's youth productions. Affectionately known as “Esme,” she is always in motion—studying, dancing, or teaching the art that moves her.
